Sadly, it seems as though more and more schools are cutting their arts program each year. If I am working in a school district that does not have enough funds for an art program, I feel like I am able to take on that responsibility in my classroom. There are several types of learning styles, including artistic learning, and the Eric Carle lesson plan will reach those students who are artistically inclined. With this lesson plan, I feel that I can "embrace teaching through appropriate and creative activities utilizing instructional techniques that are supported by current research."

My unit plan on "How to Research" is geared towards fifth grade to eighth grade students. The unit presents the steps of how to successfully obtain truthful information from credible sources. At the end of the unit, the students will choose a subject to research, learn the difference between primary and secondary resources, and understand how to read graphs and  present their data. Through this unit, I will "help each student to learn how to safely and responsibly access and use resources to become a discerning independent learner and problem solver through print materials, information technology, and assistive technology."

During the telling time lesson, I feel like I "evaluated, adapted, and modified instructional strategies, technologies and other educational resources to enhance the learning of each student." Telling time can be a difficult concept for some students. Some students must memorize certain ideas when looking at an analogue clock to determine the time. We used SMART Board resources as well as an interactive website to help certain students not only read what time the clock says, but they can create any time of day. The interactive website is also helpful in showing students the difference between AM and PM, and the position of the sun in the sky at certain times.
